This map is a perfect take-home for anyone interested in the diversity of Australia's First Nations peoples. Australia's First Peoples have been living on the Australian continent for over 60,000 years.

Map dimensions when flat:

  • Small A3: 297 x 420 mm
  • Medium A1: 594 x 841 mm
  • Large A0: 841 x 1188 mm

This map is produced by AIATSIS (Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies) to help better understand the geographical parameters of traditional country and represent the language, social or nation groups of Aboriginal Australia.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia is made up of many different and distinct groups, each with their own culture, customs, language and laws.

This map represents the general locations of these groups and their languages and more; but not exact or fixed boundaries. It serves as a reminder of the richness and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia.

It used published resources from the eighteenth century-1994 and is not intended to be exact, nor the boundaries fixed.

It is not suitable for native title or other land claims.

A really interesting map

We purchased the A1 size map, and it was a great addition to our caravan as we travelled Australia. It's so interesting to see all the areas and their boundaries.

A little difficult to read the grey font but a very interesting map. Thought it would be rolled rather than folded as I had intended to frame it.
